Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about in-home euthanasia, hospice care, scheduling, and service areas. If you don’t see your question here, please reach out.
How does in-home euthanasia work?
In-home euthanasia is a gentle process that allows pets to pass peacefully at home. A sedative is given first to ensure comfort and relaxation before the final medication is administered. Time is taken to explain each step and allow families to say goodbye in a calm, familiar setting.

Will my pet feel pain?
The process is designed to be peaceful and free from distress. Sedation is given first so pets are calm and comfortable before the final medication is administered.
How do I know when it’s time?
This is one of the most difficult questions families face. Changes in comfort, mobility, appetite, and engagement can all be signs that quality of life is declining. A Quality of Life consultation can help guide this decision with clarity and support.
Can I stay with my pet?
Yes. Families may remain with their pet throughout the entire visit. Some choose to step away at certain moments — both are completely okay.
What is veterinary hospice care?
Hospice and palliative care focus on comfort and quality of life when a cure is no longer possible or no longer the goal. Care may include symptom management, medication adjustments, and ongoing guidance as needs change.
Does hospice mean we are waiting for a natural passing?
No. Hospice care involves active comfort management. It does not require an immediate end-of-life decision, and euthanasia remains an option when appropriate.
What is a quality of life consultation?
A quality of life consultation is an in-home visit focused on evaluating comfort, discussing concerns, and helping families understand next steps. In some cases, the appointment may transition to hospice care or euthanasia if appropriate and desired.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Appointments may be requested by phone, text, or through the contact form. Limited appointment times are available through online scheduling. For greater flexibility or urgent needs, please call or text.
Do you offer emergency services?
Heartkind Home Veterinary Care does not provide 24-hour emergency services. If your pet is experiencing a medical emergency, please seek care at the nearest emergency veterinary hospital.
Do you travel outside your listed service areas?
Care is provided throughout northwestern King County and western Snohomish County. Visits outside these areas may be possible depending on scheduling, and additional travel fees may apply.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payment is due at the time of service. Major credit cards are accepted as well as Venmo and Apply pay. If you have questions about payment, please reach out.
