Quality of Life & Care Consultations

A quality of life consultation is a supportive appointment designed to help families assess how their pet is feeling and functioning day to day. Together, we talk through physical comfort, mobility, appetite, behavior, and the changes you may be noticing at home.

These consultations are especially helpful when decisions feel unclear, emotions are high, or you want professional guidance before determining next steps.

These visits are not only about assessment, but also about creating a plan to support your pet’s comfort and quality of life moving forward.

A quality of life & care consultation may be appropriate if:

• Your pet is aging and experiencing gradual changes
• A chronic or serious illness is affecting daily comfort
• You’re unsure whether symptoms are manageable
• You’re feeling uncertain about timing or next steps
• You want guidance before considering hospice or other care
• You’re feeling unsure what your pet needs or what to do next

This visit is about understanding and support — not rushing decisions.

A quality of life and care consultation is designed to provide clarity, guidance, and support during a time that can feel uncertain or overwhelming. These visits focus on understanding your pet’s comfort and helping you feel more confident in what comes next.

During this visit, care may include:

• Assessment of comfort, mobility, and daily function
• Proactive senior pet care
• Guidance on supporting quality of life at home
• Discussion of care options, including hospice and palliative care
• Help navigating difficult decisions, including timing of euthanasia
• Ongoing support and follow-up when needed
• A plan for next steps, whether that includes ongoing care, follow-up support, or simply more time and observation

Each consultation is unhurried and focused on listening, observation, and thoughtful discussion.

During the visit, we may:

• Review your pet’s medical history and current concerns
• Discuss comfort, pain, mobility, appetite, and behavior
• Talk through care options and supportive strategies
• Discuss proactive steps to support senior pets
• Explore whether hospice, palliative care, or monitoring may be appropriate
• Answer questions and help you feel more confident about next steps

There is no expectation to make immediate decisions during this visit.

Many families begin with a quality of life consultation and continue with ongoing support as their pet’s needs change over time.

Virtual consultations are focused on guidance and education, helping you better understand what your pet may be experiencing and what next steps might look like. If an in-home visit is needed, we can talk through options and scheduling during your consultation.

Diagnosis and prescribing require an in-person exam.
